Abbotsbury Sub-Tropical GardensAbbotsbury SwanneryAsk any local person to point you in the direction of a typical Dorset village and you'll find yourself in Abbotsbury - known for its Swannery, sub-tropical gardens and much more.

Abbotsbury, on the coast road between Weymouth and Bridport, has pubs, tea-rooms, gift shops, church and post office in a traditional setting where stone and thatched houses line narrow streets.

One of the most delightful shops in Abbotsbury is Dansel Gallery, very highly regarded and specialising in quality woodwork and contemporary furniture - all handmade by British craftsmen with a third coming from Dansel's own workshop. They have been selected for quality, for their standards of presentation and for their knowledge of contemporary woodwork by the Crafts Council - and sell unique pieces not seen elsewhere.

The Bakehouse is new but is incorporated in a well converted shop promises and shares with the Post Office. You won't want to pass-by The Bakehouse as the aroma of freshly baking produce wafts out. Bread, rolls, pasties, savouries, Danish pastries and cakes. Baked potatoes, filled rolls, bacon sandwiches, and hot or cold drinks.

Looking for a typical village inn isn't difficult, for on the edge of the village Graham and Sue Roper are the long-serving hosts at The Swan Inn. Indoor and outdoor facilities for the family. Good food, good ales, family room, garden and patio overlooking the countryside including St Catherine's Chapel which towers over the village.

The Abbotsbury Music Festival spans six months with its season of music by international artistes (What's On). There are some really good walks in and around the village of Abbotsbury including the climb up to St Catherine's Chapel where views include those over the sea, Chesil Beach and countryside.
